Yesterday, I went to attend the internment of an acquaintance, of a friend. He was the Agricultural Technologist assigned for the project I'm currently handling. I haven't known him for that long but I had stayed in their home for a few times while we were doing an assessment in the area last year. Yes, he was that generous. Maybe that is the reason why a lot had showed up yesterday for the internment too.
What was sad about his death was that he was only 44. Very young. And he left a wife and two sons...
While we were on our way to the cemetery, I remembered us both passing by it during the assessment days. We were on our way back from Palo 3 and we passed by the cemetery. I remember him jokingly telling me that everytime he would pass by there late in the afternoon, he would speed by and avoid looking at the direction of the cemetery. I find it ironic yesterday remembering that particular moment and our having to lay him at rest in that same cemetery.
Life indeed is short. You'll never know when your time will be up. Nonoy was such a carefree soul. He was not without his smile that seemed to be permanently fixed on his face. Weird but only two weeks ago I've talked to him. He was telling me about his pet project -- eel raising -- and how he is about to earn a great income out of it come May. He had worked diligently for that project. He had often talked about it to us during the assessment when the whole thing was still at its planning stages. Then the next thing I knew, he already had the whole thing going. And now, he had left even before he could reap his rewards. Life really is strange. It has no guarantees...
